LSU Libraries welcomes Zach Tompkins as University Archivist. With this position, Tompkins will be collecting the university’s primary source materials that document the diverse and historically significant academic, scholarly, social, and cultural activities of LSU.
A goal that Tompkins has for his new position is to work with the university’s various academic departments, administrative offices, and faculty & student groups to curate a collection that tells the complex story of LSU’s impact on its community and beyond.
Tompkins has worked with various public, academic, and government libraries and archives-most recently at the Louisiana State Archives where he was a governmental records archivist and later the Head of Records Services.
Tompkins grew up in the Shreveport area and earned a BA in English and History from Louisiana Tech University and an MLIS from LSU. He is an avid news reader, podcast listener, and New Orleans Saints fan. Tompkins enjoys spending time with his wife and young son, especially if it involves riding bicycles, live music, or making something in the kitchen.
