LSU Libraries welcomes John Guillory

John Guillory has joined LSU Libraries to help with the Louisiana Digital Library (LDL), including scanning manuscripts and adding metadata to items.

After 25 years with LOUIS: The Louisiana Library Network, Guillory retired in 2017. One of his duties while there was supporting the SIRSIDynix Symphony library management system with other LOUIS colleagues. Guillory wrote programs in PERL, claimed help desk issues, and was in charge of ensuring nightly backups were taken for all LOUIS member libraries.

Guillory said one of his most enjoyable job duties he had at LOUIS was working on the LDL. When LOUIS supported the LDL, Guillory wrote the web-based front page in PHP, trained support staff around the state on adding collections to the LDL and claimed help desk issues related to the LDL.

Guillory grew up in New Orleans and earned his bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees from LSU in the 1980s.

Outside of work,  Guillory enjoys painting and drawing (johnguillory.com) and riding his bike with hopes of bike touring in the next year or so.
