LSU Libraries joins ACRL Diversity Alliance

diversity-alliance-logoLSU Libraries recently joined the Association of College and Research Libraries’ Diversity Alliance. The ACRL Diversity Alliance program unites academic libraries that share a commitment to increase the hiring pipeline of qualified, talented individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups. The Diversity Alliance strives to enrich the library profession by encouraging dialogue among librarians from diverse backgrounds. Membership to the ACRL Diversity Alliance demonstrates a commitment to the LSU Libraries’ goal to foster diversity and inclusion to patrons and library employees.

“The ACRL Diversity Alliance is the most important multi-library approach to diversity to date, and its prospects for success are impressive,” Dean of LSU Libraries, Stanley Wilder said. “We are excited to be a part of the Alliance and eager to get started.”

Participating libraries must establish a residency program that offers mentorship and experiences to expand the resident’s interests and skills. Residencies will range from two to three years. Besides doing this, LSU Libraries will serve as a resource to other Diversity Alliance member institutions, which include 28 institutions across the country.
