Extra! Extra! Hear all about it!
Join us Friday, May 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Hill Memorial Library lecture hall for a presentation by Deborah Thomas, National Digital Library Program (NDNP) Coordinator at the Library of Congress.
In 2009, LSU received an NDNP grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities allowing us to participate in NDNP and add Louisiana newspapers to Chronicling America, a website hosted by the Library of Congress that enhances access to America’s historic newspapers.
This site currently allows users to search and view more than 2 million newspaper pages from 1880-1922—for free! Currently NDNP has 22 state partners. Louisiana is one of seven added in 2009, to digitize 100,000 newspaper pages.
Ms. Thomas’s presentation will be a great way to learn about the program’s goals for digitizing historical newspapers from all over the country.
