LSU Libraries provides research guide for student veterans

LSU Libraries has partnered with The LSU William A. Brookshire Military & Veterans Student Center to present information sessions and to talk about library resources available to student veterans. The center is dedicated to helping veterans, service members, dependents and survivors succeed in higher education.

LSU Libraries provides a Veterans Resources guide online, which includes links to databases, campus resources, community resources, national resources, and more for student veterans at LSU. LSU librarians Rebecca Kelley and Mitch Fontenot spoke at two Lunch and Learn events at the Veterans Student Center, where they highlighted some of the services and resources the Libraries provides. The first session had an estimated 10 attendants. Sachiko Cleveland, program director at the Veterans Student Center, received such positive feedback about the session that she invited Fontenot and Kelley back for a second session, which drew in an estimated 20 attendants.

Kelley and Fontenot used the sessions to inform student veterans about the Libraries and to mingle with them. They connected with the student veterans to help the transition to college life smoother.

Kelley and Fontenot have another Lunch and Learn session planned with the student veterans this spring. The Libraries plans to continue reaching out to groups like the student veterans on campus to inform more people about what the Libraries are about and what they provide.
