On Wednesday, December 3rd, at 3:00 p.m., Joan Lippincott, Associate Director of the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI), will deliver a lecture, “21st Century Academic Libraries: Focusing on Learning and Community,” in the Atchafalaya Room of the LSU Student Union.

Planning for a dynamic interplay of pedagogies, technologies, and content in renovated library spaces takes intentional effort. In the past decade, libraries have become adept at creating lively spaces for student collaborative activities that balance the traditional quiet, solo study spaces identified with traditional libraries. Lippincott will explore opportunities that focus on building close relationships with academic programs and teaching faculty through partnerships that leverage new pedagogies, technologies, content, and spaces. Libraries can become learning labs where learners become producers of new knowledge.  Libraries can enable curricular innovation by providing content, services, and technologies that serve their entire institutions. In addition, libraries continue to enhance their status as cultural hubs of their institutions, reflecting their colleges’ culture, celebrating creativity and art, and welcoming all to interact in a marketplace of ideas.

Joan K. Lippincott is the Associate Executive Director of the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI), a joint program of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) and EDUCAUSE. CNI, based in Washington, DC, is an institutional membership organization that advances the transformative promise of networked information technology for the advancement of scholarly communication and the enrichment of intellectual productivity. She has been with CNI since 1990.

Paul Hrycaj is a Research & Instruction Librarian at the LSU Libraries.
