Mapping the history of LSU – a talk on September 3rd

Posted in Events, Exhibitions, Special Collections Tagged with: , ,

Join us on Wednesday, September 3rd at 10:30 am in Hill Memorial Library for a presentation by Barry Cowan, Assistant University Archivist. Cowan will present the fascinating history of the university, illustrated with captivating photographs and papers that document LSU’s faculty, students, athletes, buildings and various campuses from its founding in 1859 through the present.

A related exhibition, “The Greater University,” features historical documents and photographs that tell the story of LSU’s expansion and move to the present campus from downtown Baton Rouge in 1926. Materials are drawn from the University Archives, housed in LSU Libraries Special Collections. This is a unique opportunity for incoming students to learn about the history of LSU and the resources available for research at Hill Memorial Library, and to view some of the university’s treasures up close.

The talk and exhibition are free and open to the public, and are presented in association with LSU FYE Bengal Bound 2014 program.
