Summer Scholars 2013

Summer Scholars 2013

On July 23, 2013, Jessica Lacher-Feldman (Head of Special Collections), Tara Laver (Curator of Manuscripts), and Mitch Fontenot (Instruction and Outreach Librarian) gave presentations to the 37 incoming freshmen who are part of the LSU University College’s Summer Scholars program. Lacher-Feldman and Laver presented on Hill Memorial Library Special Collections and Fontenot presented on the libraries’ home page, databases, and LIS 1001. Students were provided with the opportunity to ask questions of the librarians and given handouts with additional information about LSU Libraries.

The Summer Scholars program, headed by Annette Yancy, “is an eight-week summer bridge program that prepares selected under-represented minority students to make a successful transition from high school to the University” (from the Summer Scholars Program website at http://uiswcmsweb.prod.lsu.edu/universitycollege/UC_SSP/index.html).

Paul Hrycaj is a Research & Instruction Librarian at the LSU Libraries.

  • #TBT As the Tigers roar into the opening game of the 2014 football season, let’s look back at the season opener from one hundred years ago. LSU faced Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute (now University of Louisiana at Lafayette) on September 26, a game Coach E.T. McDonald (standing at left in the photograph) called “merely a practice game” against a much smaller team with less ability. LSU cruised to an easy 54-0 victory.
