Summer Scholars 2013

Summer Scholars 2013

On July 23, 2013, Jessica Lacher-Feldman (Head of Special Collections), Tara Laver (Curator of Manuscripts), and Mitch Fontenot (Instruction and Outreach Librarian) gave presentations to the 37 incoming freshmen who are part of the LSU University College’s Summer Scholars program. Lacher-Feldman and Laver presented on Hill Memorial Library Special Collections and Fontenot presented on the libraries’ home page, databases, and LIS 1001. Students were provided with the opportunity to ask questions of the librarians and given handouts with additional information about LSU Libraries.

The Summer Scholars program, headed by Annette Yancy, “is an eight-week summer bridge program that prepares selected under-represented minority students to make a successful transition from high school to the University” (from the Summer Scholars Program website at http://uiswcmsweb.prod.lsu.edu/universitycollege/UC_SSP/index.html).

Paul Hrycaj is a Research & Instruction Librarian at the LSU Libraries.

  • Long before the incredible "Pistol" Pete, Rudy Macklin, Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, and so many others -- and our great team today, there were these guys! Bonus if you can identify the building in the background. #TBT Today’s Throwback Thursday photo is LSU’s entire undergraduate student body showing some school spirit in 1923. We don’t know the occasion but we like the photo. Give us a “like” if you feel the same! Baton Rouge photographer Jasper Ewing took this shot and hundreds of others around the LSU campus from around 1910 to 1940. Some of Ewing’s early work can be found here in the LSU University Archives Photograph Collection: http://cdm16313.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/landingpage/collection/LSU_UAP. His work appears in other collections as well. Photo source: Department of Military Science Records, RG #A0602, Louisiana State University Archives, LSU Libraries, Baton Rouge, LA.
